These factors have been crucial in making Ja\u00e9n the region with the<strong> highest production of olive oil in the world.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The tradition of olive oil and the cultivation of olive groves in Ja\u00e9n<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The cultivation of olive groves and the production of olive oil are the<strong> main economic activities of the province. <\/strong>To speak of Ja\u00e9n both historically and nowadays is to speak of top quality olive oil, of the green of its olive groves (which many call a &#8220;sea of olive trees&#8221;), and of<strong> a region in which oil is an integral part of its culture and traditions.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Ja\u00e9n has over 60 million olive trees <\/strong>and they are all owned by somebody. The oil from <strong>Ja\u00e9n accounts for some 40% of Spanish production and 20-25% of world production<\/strong>; the second most important oil producing country is Italy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Characteristics of olive oil from Ja\u00e9n<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Most of the oil from Ja\u00e9n is of the <a href=\"https:\/\/fuenquesada.com\/en\/what-are-the-characteristics-of-100-picual-olive-oil\/\">picual variety<\/a> (like Fuenquesada, an extra virgin olive oil with a strong personality) and has<strong> special sensory characteristics<\/strong>; it is <strong>long lasting and highly resistant to temperature<\/strong>.
